Hi everyone,

This is Will, media writers co-ordinator of Vegetarian Network Victoria. I am forwarding you this email that I sent out to the media writers group today about a huge article that appeared in today's Sunday Age on red meat. It appears to be heavily influenced by the meat industry, and designed to create doubt as to the health and environmental benefits of going on a plant-based diet.

We are trying to get as many letters as possible published in response in next week's Sunday Age, so if you can help out that would be fabulous - please forward the email below to your networks! Letters can be written until the end of business (Victorian time) on Wednesday, so you have a few days.

The meat industry and the associated vested interests are really cracking down in response to rising concern about health and the environment - a few weeks ago there was an anti-vegan rant by the publication editor and 5 full pages of ads for red meat. They have a lot of money and power, but we have some fundamental truths on our side and we can get them into the open!

Briefly, the links to the two articles are here:

www.theage.com.au/national/chop-or-change-20090418-aav3.html?page=-1

www.theage.com.au/environment/chewing-the-cud-on-facts-fats-and-er-farts-20090418-aav4.html

and here are the Age's contact details:

Send your letters to:

letters@theage.com.au
Fax: +61 (0)3 96012414
Snailmail: 250 Spencer Street, Melbourne 3000

All letters and email (no attachments) to The Age must carry the
sender's home address and day and evening phone numbers for
verification. Letter writers who would like receipt of their letters
acknowledged should send a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Ideally, letters will be a maximum of 200 words.

Thanks heaps,

Will Schmidt
