Have recently revisited Niche Nosh Cafe in Katoomba for another excellent meal. Really recommend it if you can get there.

On the subject of food try mixing up Sanitarium Casserole Mince with a couple of FR eggs (or egg replacer) and 2 desert spoons of flour, add chopped onion, mixed herbs and pepper then brown it on both sides as a pancake. Delicious!

Hi Davey, I can't wait to head up to Niche Nosh to try them out (I've heard such good things about them.)

Also in a recent issuce of Natural Health & Vegetarian Life they mentioned Fountain Vegetarian restaraunt at Bella Vista. I went for a drive to have a look at it, it's hard to find coz it's part of a larger building (not the usual place for a restaraunt!) but it does have a sign out the front. That's another one I'm going to be trying.

Re. cheese, I like the woolworths select, also you'll love coles extra tasty has non-animal rennet, as does their shredded mozzarella. You'll love coles also has some great dips that are suitable for vegetarians (it says it on the back.)

Also, I uploaded a recipe for a very delicious vegetarian mexican cannelloni to my youtube site today (in video slide show form with music!), if you're interested have a look at my profile, it should say the address there, I might eventually put it on here too.

Hi Stardrifter

Thanks for the info, will watch out for the Fountain Vegetarian Restaurant if I get to Bella Vista.

Checked out the Mexican Cannelloni recipe, looks very tempting!

I am actually going there this Friday night for dinner, so will let you all know how I found it, and if their desserts sound yummy I might start with dessert first! After all, life's short!!

My brother's girlfriend lives up at Leura and she's been to Niche Nosh quite a few times! She thinks we should go up there to celebrate my 1st year anniversary of being vegetarian!

She took my brother to Niche Nosh a few weeks ago, and he had the Recovery burger... he told me that he LOVED it!!!! And that's coming from a meat eater!!!! Shocked Cool

I wish if there were a vegetarian restaurant in Penrith, that would be sweet.

I actually finally went there. I can definitely say the recovery burger is delicious! It is huge though, I took nearly half of it home! I have heard the this cafe is up for sale, I only hope someone who's veg takes it over....

Update on Fountain Vegetarian restaurant at Bella Vista - I've been there 3 times now and the food is fantastic. The chocolate mousse dessert absolute divine! Everything on the menu has a vegan option I think. Is a bit pricey but well worth it.

I love it when I can go to a restaurant and order anything off the menu without having to worry!

Also, there's a place called Zen Oasis down the south coast in Berrima (near Mittagong/Bowral) that do buffet all you can eat lunch on the weekends. It is wholly vegetarian and it's only about $28 per person. They have a website (just do a search for Zen Oasis Berrima in your fav search engine.) Am planning on trying it one of these days.

There is also a vegetarian cafe in Berrima though I'm unsure what it's called, again do a search on the net and you should find it.

Happy veg eating!

Hi

Does anyone know if Niche Nosh is still open? I have not been to Katoomba for ages and cannot find any information as to whether it is still there... or has it changed address?

Hi Mark

Last time I was in Katoomba, Niche Nosh had moved accross the road and slightly down the hill.

Hi Mark

Sorry, I didn't note the number, it is just to the left of the "Carrington".

Enjoyed the meal though.

Sorry to say Niche Nosh has closed down. It was either late last year or early this year. It's now a hamburger and fish shop: the Niche Nosh owners must be turning in their retirement loungers. And there's a Subway just down the street now too - how long before Macdonalds etc arrive?

Seriously though, this was a really good veg*n cafe and was always packed. I have been trying to find out why it closed without success.

There are no purely veg*n cafes in Katoomba now which is weird considering what a popular place it is for alternative lifestylers it is.
