In response to the front page article 'The Monkey Farm' in The Sunday Age on 25 November, an investigation into the government funded primate breeding facility in Gippsland, Victoria, we urge you to voice your opposition to the highly unethical practice of primate breeding and experimentation in Australia.

We ask you to please call, write or email the universities mentioned in the article who actively participate in primate research.

University of Melbourne

animal-ethics@unimelb.edu.au
Phone: 03 8344 2048

We also call upon you to contact the NHMRC (National Health and Medical Research Council) responsible for funding a large percentage of primate experimentation in Australia, and urge them to stop using taxpayers' dollars on unnecessary and unethical primate research.

Humane Research Australia believes it’s time Australia ended the shameful practice of primate breeding and experimentation. With your help we can achieve a ban on this unnecessary, archaic and cruel practice.

Your support is greatly appreciated.
