On the eve of Thanksgiving let’s remember the 46 million turkeys that are killed in the US ALONE for this “celebration”.
With Christmas approaching, Animal Liberation (ACT) has launched its latest investigation on turkeys in Australia. This is also part of its new 'Big Birds, Big Cruelty' campaign website which includes the release of new photos and footage. The investigation reveals horrendous conditions such as overcrowding, turkeys staggering and dying in their own waste, dead bodies of turkeys left to decompose, bleeding open wounds and burns found on their bodies and crippled legs and crippled feet.
In Australia, most turkey is consumed at Christmas. Christmas is supposed to be the season of “peace and goodwill” but it simply isn’t for turkeys in Australia. Clearly, the industry continues to shows greater concern for profits than the welfare of birds.
