Applications are now open for 2010 Voiceless Grants Program.
Now in its seventh year, the Grants Program has awarded more than $1 million to universities, local councils, and animal protection and non-profit organisations for projects that improve the lives of animals in Australia.
In 2009 almost $120,000 was awarded to 14 recipients for projects addressing a range of issues, including factory farming and the commercial kangaroo industry. Voiceless also funded animal law and education projects, as well as TV, radio and newspaper ad campaigns related to animal protection in Australia.
Applications should be submitted online from Tuesday 1st June, and must be in by midnight on Friday 16th July. No late entries will be accepted.
2010 applications will only be considered for projects that fall into one or more of the following categories:
* factory farming;
* the commercial kangaroo industry; or
* building animal protection as a social justice movement.
In addition, all projects must relate to Australian animals and either change attitudes or build awareness about animal suffering, encourage the public to take action for animals in their personal lives, or work to modify or create new laws or policies to further animal protection in Australia.
Visit the Voiceless website for further details about selection criteria and the application processt:
Successful applicants will be notified during September 2010. Grants will be awarded at the annual Voiceless Awards Event on the evening of Thursday, 2 December at the Sydney Town Hall - an event that has become known as the 'Oscars' of the Australian animal protection community.
