We are planning to start a family next year and I've been looking for pre-pregnancy supplements but they all seem to have fish oil in them. Does anyone know of any that are veggie friendly? thanks!

Hi

There seem to be a few online shops where you can buy veg products. This is one:

Vegan Essentials - http://www.veganessentials.com/

Also there is a similar question on the Vegetarian/Vegan Soc QLD website forums at:

http://www.vegsoc.org.au/forum_messages.asp?Thread_ID=7641&Topic_ID=1

I hope that this helps!

Mark

Hi there,
For anyone else who is looking for vegie friendly pre-natal supplements, I have now found one through Bioceuticals, an Australian owned company. They have a product called InNatal http://www.bioceuticals.com.au/product.aspx?function=displayproduct&productid=206

Dr Earth in Newtown sell this product.

thanks, bec

Hi Mark
My wife is pregnanted and she is in second month. I think the nine month of pregnancy is very important for baby than his whole life. So my question is what type of food is best in pregnant period. Doctor told about green food. what is your opinion?

Hi

I am not a nutritionist or doctor, so it is best to get information from a reliable source.

However, I do know that essential fatty acids (omega-3) is important, as is folic acid and vitamin B12.

As far as greens are concerned, I agree with your doctor that quality concentrated greens are excellent (think wheatgrass juice and barley grass).

Iron needs may increase and I recommend a formula like Floradix or Floravital, plus extra vitamin C to help absorb non-haem iron from fruit and veg.

There are some excellent books available from the QLD Veg Soc as well. See this one for instance http://www.vegsoc.org.au/resources_details.asp?ID=476

I hope this helps.
