Music Legend, Sir Paul McCartney, states that a fish's life "is as important to him as mine is to me," in a new ad campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia-Pacific.

"Many years ago, I was fishing, and as I was reeling in the poor fish, I realised, 'I am killing him - all for the passing pleasure it brings me'", says Sir Paul in his new ad campaign. "[S]omething inside me clicked", he continues. "I realized as I watched him fight for breath that his life was as important to him as mine is to me."

The ad concludes, "I Am Paul McCartney, and I Am a Vegetarian".

Sir Paul has been a vegetarian advocate for more than two decades, and his efforts have only become more vigorous in recent years as he continues to focus attention on the cruelty caused by eating meat as well as other consequences. Explains Sir Paul, "If anyone wants to save the planet, all they have to do is just stop eating meat. That's the single most important thing you could do. It's staggering when you think about it. Vegetarianism takes care of so many things in one shot: ecology, famine, cruelty."

And it's not just long-time PETA supporter Sir Paul who has said "so long" to meat. Other celebrities backing PETA's vegetarian campaign include actor, Pamela Anderson, actor-director extraordinaire, Forest Whitaker, Academy Award-nominated actor, Casey Affleck, and actor, Alicia Silverstone. All the ads can be found on PETA US’s new vegetarian-testimonial web page which is linked at www.PETA.org
