Membership badges of emamel lapel or broach type with A.V.S. emblem could be a good idea for the members. These would be purchased from the Society and worn proudly everyday.

The benefits would be as follows:

1) A source of revenue for the society.

2) Awareness of the Society by the public at large.

3) Recognition of other members.

4) A show of solidarity at events.

I would like to know what other members think.

Davey

Hi Davey

I like the idea but T-shirts provide a more 'upfront' image as do bumper stickers, etc.

Badges, unless large, tend to be a little old fashioned in my opinion - a bit like the hippie era!

A small badge for AVS members is fine but would not be very 'loud' as a way of promoting vegetarianism. Maybe a bit 'clubby'.

The above is my opinion only and I welcome any other feedback.

Mark

I think I'd forget to put my badge on half the time! (Memory's not as good as it used to be!) I definitely like the idea of stickers, though would not put one on my car's bumper, but would put one on the back window. I like the idea of t-shirts too, have been wanting to get a few made up for myself but in small quantities it is a bit pricey. I'd love to wear a tshirt promoting vegetarianism to the supermarket! (even better, outside the local butchers!!!) Make people feel guilty as they walk in??!!! I'd wear it as often as possible, in the hopes of getting people to think. I was thinking along the lines of "Go Vegetarian... For your health, for the animals, for the environment".

Repliers to this topic make some very good points and I could not agree more. Indeed I have had a sticker in the rear car window for a long time. T shirts, banners etc are all good ways to promote the vegetarian life style. The badges would not have the same impact but then they would not be expected to. We should remember the 1,000's of Australians who work in Banks, Business, Hospitals, Transport, Emergency Services etc. etc. They are required to wear uniform or corporate dress and only a small badge, broach, tie-pin etc. is a viable option for them during their working days when it is just as important to get the message across. Of course many might wish to wear them all the time.

Hi all, I have just renewed my membership after it lapsed so I didn't know that you had a website up and running, its really great, I also subscribe to Happycow which is US based with Australian group membership, but I think that its much more convenient to have access to info for an Australian vegan/vegetarian lifestyle. Just in reply to Marks suggestion of AVS t-shirts, are they available? I haven't seen them for sale in the magazine and would be interested in purchasing one if they are available. Polly. Very Happy

Hi

The AVS is not heavily into merchandise like badges or T-shirts because most of the energy has been spent producing the magazine.

However, many other groups do produce related merchandise - like Animals Australia and Animal Liberation.

Worth a look!
